McLaurin Named to All-Central Region First Team

It is the second consecutive All-Region honor for McLaurin, who was named to the All-Central Region Honorable Mention Team in 2011.

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma junior Sallie McLaurin was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Central Region First Team the organization announced today from its Lexington, Ky., office.

The recognition marks the second consecutive All-Central Region honor of McLaurin’s career, who was named to the All-Central Region Honorable Mention Team last season.

McLaurin led the Sooners with 2.83 kills per set, hitting .357 on the year.

The middle blocker also averaged 1.37 blocks per set for a total of 159 blocks - dropping 20 solo blocks and 139 block assists – each a team-high accomplishment. Additionally the Midwest City, Okla., native averaged a team-high 3.60 points per set.

The junior middle blocker’s stellar season for the Sooners also ranked her in the top ten of four separate categories in the Big 12: hitting percentage (2nd, .357), blocks per set (3rd, 1.37), points per set (6th, 3.60), and kills per set (9th, 2.83).

McLaurin’s 2012 campaign was recognized with multiple awards and honors on the year.

She was selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, 2012 Ameritas Players Challenge All-Tournament Team, 2012 Northern Colorado Classic All-Tournament Team, 2012 Nike Invitational All-Tournament team, Academic All-Big 12 First Team and the 2012 All-Big 12 Big team. She was also named the 2012 Oklahoma Invitational MVP and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the week for Nov. 26 2012.

McLaurin helped lead the Sooners to their fourth straight NCAA berth – a program-best record in 2012. OU made it to the Second Round for the fifth time in program history, but fell to No. 16 BYU.
