Van Horn Named OU's Woman of the Year

July 26, 1999

Norman, Okla. - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has named Meredith Van Horn as the 1999 University of Oklahoma Woman of the Year. Van Horn was a four-year letterwinner for Head Volleyball Coach Miles Pabst (1996-99) and is the school's all-time leader in assists (4,938).

In 1997, Van Horn led the NCAA in assists per game (apg) and a year later finished the season ranked second in the nation in the category. She also holds the top three single-season assist figures at OU and ranks among the Big 12 Conference's top all-time setters.

On August 16, the NCAA will announce the Woman of the Year state award winner, and in September the 10 national finalists will be named. The state award winners, 10 finalists and the 1999 NCAA Woman of the Year will be recognized Oct. 24 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Former OU track and field standout Jenny Bramer earned the State NCAA Woman of the Year honor in 1997.

Van Horn graduated from OU this past May with a bachelor's degree in microbiology/pre-medicine and will be attending Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, this September.
