NORMAN, Okla. – It took the University of Oklahoma volleyball team just one hour, 19 minutes to sweep Kansas Saturday afternoon (-17, -16, -13) at McCasland Field House. The Sooners (17-7, 10-5 Big 12) made quick work of the Jayhawks (13-11, 5-9 Big 12) by holding KU to a .097 hitting percentage. Kansas also committed a combined 26 attack and service errors.

“It was an awesome performance,” said Oklahoma head coach Santiago Restrepo. “We played very well as a team and played very composed. We played hard throughout the match, and it was just a great overall performance.”

Junior Francie Ekwerekwu led OU with nine kills. Ekwerekwu hit .412 and added five total blocks, including one block solo. Sophomore setter Brianne Barker connected on all seven attack attempts to match her career high in kills and produce a 1.000 hitting percentage. She added 26 assists and two block assists and one block solo.

Senior Bridget Laplante added 10 digs, four kills and one service, while freshman Maria Fernanda recorded 10 digs. Suzy Boulavsky tallied four service aces on the afternoon, a new career high for the sophomore. Boulavsky also contributed seven kills, as did sophomore Caitlin Higgins.  Higgins also added a service ace. Junior Sarah Freudenrich hit .417, laying down five kills.

As a team, the Sooners hit .341 and out-blocked the Jayhawks, 8-2. It was the ninth time this season Oklahoma held an opponent under a .100 hitting percentage as the Jayhawks connected on only 28 of their 93 attempts. Oklahoma’s six service aces tied for the third-most this season.

OU hits the road for its next two contests. The Sooners travel to Columbia Wednesday evening to face Missouri at 6:30 p.m. Oklahoma then takes on Texas Tech next Saturday, Nov. 14 in Lubbock.
