NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma women’s tennis players Hermon Brhane and Whitney Ritchie advance to the singles finals at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
“Whitney and Hermon were really outstanding today in both singles and doubles play,” OU Head Coach David Mullins said. “We were a lot more competitive today and I believe we will finish the fall season on a high note tomorrow.”
In the White Draw OU sophomore Abbi Melrose fell to Tulsa’s Maria Sant'Anna, 6-2, 6-3, in the consolation semifinals. OU junior Mia Lancaster defeated Tulsa’s Carol Benito, 6-2, 6-1. Lancaster will play Tulsa’s Maria Sant'Anna in the consolation finals. Melrose will face Tulsa’s Carol Benito.
In the Gray Draw OU freshman Zita Engbroks defeated Memphis’ Kelly Gray, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, to advance to the consolation finals. Engbroks will play Tulsa’s Reneta Kuricova. OU junior Whitney Wofford fell to Memphis’ Skylar Kuykendall, 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals. Wofford will face Purdue’s Krisztina Kapitany.
In the Black Draw OU junior Whitney Ritchie captured a victory against Memphis’ Liza Tymchenko, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the finals. OU sophomore Hermon Brhane defeated Memphis’ Caroline Wegner, 6-0, 7-5. To avoid Brhane and Ritchie competing against each other in the finals, players were switched around. Ritchie will play Memphis’ Caroline Wegner and Brhane will face Memphis’ Liza Tymchenko.
