Three Sooners advance to semifinal play at Memphis Invitational.

NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma women’s tennis advanced three players to Saturday’s semifinals at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
OU junior Whitney Ritchie defeated Vanderbilt’s Courtney Colton, 6-3, 6-4, in the Black Draw. Hermon Brhane also captured a win against Vanderbilt’s Marie Casares, 6-2, 6-0. Ritchie and Brhane will compete in the semifinals against Memphis’ Liza Tymchenko and Caroline Wegner, respectively.
In the Gray Draw OU junior Whitney Wofford defeated Tulsa’s Carol Benito, 6-3, 6-4. Wofford will face Memphis’ Skylar Kuykendall in the semifinals. OU’s Zita Engbroks fell to Purdue’s Krisztina Kapitany, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2, and will compete against Memphis’ Kelly Gray in consolation play.
In the White Draw, Abbi Melrose fell to Purdue’s Mara Schmidt, 6-0, 6-3, and Mia Lancaster fell to Vanderbilt’s Ashleigh Antal, 6-3, 6-1. Melrose and Lancaster will compete in the consolation bracket against Tulsa’s Maria Sant'Anna and Carol Benito, respectively.
“We were up and down today,” OU Head Coach David Mullins said. “This is the first time I have been disappointed with this team all fall.”
The Sooners competed against Memphis in doubles play. Duo Hermon Brhane and Whitney Ritchie defeated Alyssa Hibberd and Tiffany Welcher, 8-3. Mia Lancaster and Whitney Wofford fell to Stefanie Mikesz and Caroline Wegner, 9-7. Zita Engbroks and Abbi Melrose fell to Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko, 8-5.
