NORMAN, Okla. – Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie of OU women’s tennis were selected as one of 32 doubles pairs that will compete in the 2012 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships, May 23-28 at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The duo has been ranked in the top 40 nationally this entire season and holds a team-best record of 16-6 at the No. 1 doubles position.

“Whitney and Marie-Pier have been our most valuable players all year long,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “This is a well-deserved honor.”

Huet and Ritchie ended the season with a win over Baylor’s 13th-ranked pair of Ema Burgic and Nina Secerbegovic in the second round of the Big 12 Championship, 8-5.

“They have shown time and time again that they compete with the best doubles pairs in the country and I see no reason why they can’t return from Athens as All-Americans,” Mullins added.

The pair won the 2011 ITA Central Region doubles championship this fall and advanced to the round of 16 at the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships.

Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams.

For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.

All doubles teams must have a minimum of 10 completed doubles matches in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.
