NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma women’s tennis team opens Big 12 play at home this weekend. OU faces Kansas Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m., and No. 36 Kansas State Sunday, March 10, at 12 p.m. Both matches will be played at Headington Family Tennis Center.
“We are looking forward to kicking off our Big 12 campaign at home this coming weekend.” OU head coach David Mullins said.
Oklahoma (6-3) returns to the court after a bye week. The Sooners dropped during the bye week from No. 37 to 40 in the ITA Rankings.
“The Big 12 has more depth than it ever has in the past, and I expect every match we play to be extremely close and hard fought.” Mullins said.
Big 12 play kicks off with seven teams ranked in the top 40 in the ITA Rankings.
“Our tough non-conference schedule has prepared us for the second half of the season and I am hopeful that we will continue to make improvements in the weeks ahead.” Mullins added.
The Sooners notched a 4-3 record against ranked non-conference opponents.
Kansas (5-2) posted a shutout victory against the University of Missouri – Kansas City Thursday, Feb. 28.
Kansas State (4-4) has dropped its last two matches to Purdue, Feb. 24, 4-2, and was shutout by No. 10 Nebraska, March 2.
