NORMAN, Okla.— The 37th-ranked Oklahoma women’s tennis team lost a close battle with Texas A&M on Saturday, falling to the Aggies, 4-3.

Oklahoma (13-4, 3-3 Big 12) is now 9-2 at home this season and 4-4 against nationally-ranked opponents. 

The Sooners lost all three doubles matches for the first time this season against the Aggies. 

Tara Eckel and Marie-Pier Huet dropped their second match of the season at the No. 2 spot, falling to A&M’s Morgan Frank and Stephanie Davidson, 8-4. 

Texas A&M’s Christi Liles and Sheri Olivier clinched the doubles point for A&M, defeating Kristina Radan and Maria Kalashnikova at the No. 3 position, 8-4. 

No. 71-ranked Elze’ Potgieter and Nazari Urbina completed the doubles sweep for A&M, defeating 29th-ranked Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze at the No. 1 spot, 8-6. 

No. 116 Morgan Frank earned A&M’s second dual point, beating OU’s Tsertsvadze at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-1.

No. 93 Constantinescu defeated No. 58 Potgieter at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-4, to claim OU’s first dual point on the day. 

Lauren Santracroce brought A&M’s lead to 3-1, defeating OU’s Radan at the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 6-4. 

Eckel won the Sooners’ next point at the No. 6 spot, cutting A&M’s lead to 3-2.  Eckel defeated Christi Liles in the tiebreaker set, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. 

OU’s Kalashnikova tied the dual, 3-3, after rallying to beat A&M’s Sheri Olivier, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 4 spot.

The dual came down to the No. 2 singles match.  OU’s Huet won the first set, 6-2, but A&M’s 70th-ranked Nazari Urbina forced the tiebreaker set and eventually won the match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. 

The Sooners hosts Bedlam in one of their three remaining home matches on Wednesday, April 14 at 3 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
