Women's Tennis Tops Jayhawks, K-State Next

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Oklahoma women’s tennis team defeated Kansas, 5-2, Friday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Oklahoma (7-6, 2-0 Big 12) won its second straight match after beating OSU last week.  The Sooners won the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches against the Jayhawks.  OU is 7-0 when winning the doubles point.

Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie, ranked 34th nationally in doubles, improved to 10-3 with a win over Dylan Windom and Monica Pezzotti of Kansas, 8-1.

Mia Lancaster and Abbi Melrose defeated Kansas’ Paulina Los and Ludeuna at the No. 2 spot, 8-2, to clinch the doubles point before Peta Maree Lancaster and Nicole Long beat Claire Dreyer and Victoria Khanevskaya, 8-4.

OU won the first four singles matches to clinch the win over the Jayhawks. 

Long defeated Khanevskaya of KU at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-0, before Melrose topped Windom at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-4.

Huet secured the victory for OU by defeating Los at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-3. 

Ritchie won OU’s final match point with a win over Pezzotti at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-2.

The Sooners face Kansas State next on Sunday, March 11 at noon in Manhattan.
