STANFORD, Calif. - The 39th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team upset No. 29 UNLV Friday, 4-1, on day one of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Stanford University.

The Sooners swept doubles to start the match and claim the early 1-0 lead.  Senior Ana-Maria Constantinescu and freshman Alice Radu, ranked No. 31 in the country, topped Josifoska and Pavlovic of UNLV at the No. 1 position, 8-3.

"We played about as well as we could today in doubles," OU head coach David Mullins said. "Our energy and execution was phenomenal and it gave everyone a lot of confidence heading into singles."

Maria Kalashnikova and Whitney Ritchie beat UNLV's Lucia Batta and Anna Maskaljun, 8-2, at the No. 2 position.  The Sooner duo has dropped just three games in doubles play this season.

Marie-Pier Huet and Tara Eckel defeated Jana Albers at the No. 3 spot, 8-2.

In singles, OU clinched the match by winning three points at the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions.  Ritchie beat UNLV's Pavlovic at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-1, while Kalashnikova defeated Adrienn Hidvegi of UNLV in the tiebreaker set, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

"In singles we just fought harder and wanted it more than UNLV," Mullins said. "I could not be prouder of this team."

Mia Lancaster sealed the upset by topping Maskaljun of UNLV at the No. 6 spot, 7-6 (6), 7-5.

With the win, OU will advance to play top-ranked Stanford on Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT).
