Softball Preparing for Fall Slate
Sooners will open fall season on Sept. 22 with an intrasquad scrimmage.
Sept. 12, 2007
NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team will hit the field Wednesday for its first team practice of the fall season. The Sooners will have two weeks of fall practice before opening the fall season Wednesday, Sept. 26 against Seminole State at 5 p.m.
Sooner fans will have many opportunities to watch the OU squad before the 2007 season begins next spring. Oklahoma will play nine home games at the OU Softball Complex this fall.
The Sooners will kick off the season with the Sooner Diamond Showdown on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. The showdown will feature a fun day that will allow Sooner fans to watch the team for the first time this season in an intrasquad scrimmage at the OU Softball Complex. The intrasquad scrimmage will also provide fans the opportunity to mingle with the team and also seek autographs.
Following its game against Seminole State, the Sooners will host the OU Fall Festival (Sept. 28-30) at the OU Softball Complex where OU fans will have the opportunity to watch OU play five different games over the weekend.
Oklahoma will close out its fall slate with home games against St. Gregory's (Oct. 9), Northern Oklahoma (Oct. 11) and Connors State (Oct. 17).
The fall schedule does not count towards the squad's record in the spring, but provides an opportunity for the players to compete against other teams while allowing the fans a glimpse of the 2008 squad.
The Sooners welcome back 13 members, including seven starters, from a 2007 squad that produced one of the best records in school history (55-8) while claiming a Big 12 Championship and advancing to an NCAA Super Regional.
In addition, the Sooners newest member of the coaching staff, Tripp MacKay, will be taking over the offense for the 2008 season.
