NORMAN, Okla. - Incoming freshman Chana'e Jones will be wearing the Crimson and Cream for the OU softball team this fall, but the California native is taking her state by storm this summer as she was recently named California's Division IV Athlete of the Year by Rivals.com.
The San Jose, Calif., native was a two-sport standout at Valley Christian High School where she played softball and soccer. Below is an excerpt from the web site (calhisports.rivals.com):
"A standout in two sports for the Lady Warriors, Jones was a All-WCAL choice for the soccer team. In the net, she was relentless as a goalie and also made contributions as a scoring forward. Jones' play helped the Warriors' soccer team not only make the playoffs for the first time in school history, but advance all the way to the CIF Central Coast Section Div. II finals before falling to league rival Archbishop Mitty. Jones was also a three-time all league infielder for the Valley Christian softball team. She made the San Francisco Chronicle's all-metro team twice in here stellar career and will continue to play softball at the University of Oklahoma."
The freshman is one of six athletes that signed with Oklahoma for the 2007-08 season. Jones was one of the most sought after recruits in the country this season as she was recruited by Cal, Washington, Florida, Fresno State and a handful of others, but chose to attend Oklahoma.
