USA defeats Venezuela, 7-0, in opening game of pool play.

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, Canada — Oklahoma’s Keilani Ricketts held Venezuela to just one hit as the USA Softball National Team opened the ISF XIII Women’s World Fastpitch Championship Friday with a 7-0 win over South American country. The first of seven days of pool games at the event featured a Sooner battery as Ricketts’ collegiate teammate, Jessica Shults, got the start behind the plate for the U.S.
Ricketts earned her team-leading sixth win as she threw her third complete game of the summer for the American team, allowing just one the hit and no walks while striking out six. In 37.2 innings of action for Team USA this year, Ricketts has an ERA of 0.56. The senior-to-be was also successful in her one trip to the plate, picking up one her team’s 12 hits with a single.
Ricketts, Shults and the U.S. team returns to action on Saturday as it faces the Czech Republic.
