Lauren Chamberlain, Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults all named to NFCA's first team.
NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Softball program upped its All-American total to 41 Wednesday as Lauren Chamberlain, Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults were all named first-team All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Oklahoma led all programs with the three first-team honors.
The announcement of the three All-Americans came one day after Ricketts was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and marked the fourth time in the last six seasons that Oklahoma has had at least three players earn All-America honors.
Wednesday's announcement marked the third career All-America honor for both Ricketts and Shults, including the second straight first-team honor for Ricketts. Shults had previously earned two second team honors in 2010 and 2011.
The unanimous Big 12 Player of the Year, Ricketts currently ranks 11th in the country with an on-base percentage of .558 and 13th with an .841 slugging percentage. The Oklahoma junior is eighth nationally with 49 walks.
In the circle, she ranks third in the NCAA with an ERA of 0.99, third with 393 strikeouts and her 33 wins puts her fifth nationally. Ricketts is second in the nation in giving up just 3.71 hits per seven innings. The southpaw has recorded 1,191 career strikeouts, putting her third on the Big 12 career list.
The Big 12 single-season record holder in home runs as just a freshman, Chamberlain earned the honor in her first year of collegiate softball. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native enters the Women's College World Series second nationally with 27 home runs and 10th nationally with a slugging percentage of .869.
Shults continued her climb up both the Big 12 and OU career home run charts this season as she helped lead the NCAA leading home run team with 19 of its 95 home runs this year. The junior now has 53 in her career and is 13th nationally this season with her 19. Ricketts' catcher, Shults is in the top 30 nationwide in both slugging percentage and RBIs while taking out 15 opposing players on the base path this season.
Chamberlain, Ricketts and Shults and the rest of the Oklahoma squad open action at the Women's College World Series on Thursday at 12 p.m. when they take on South Florida on a game televised by ESPN2.
