NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma’s Keilani Ricketts has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the sixth time this season the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. The honor is Ricketts’ 11th career honor as she joins former Texas pitcher Cat Osterman as the only pitcher in Big 12 history to earn the award at least 11 times.
Tuesday’s honor comes after Ricketts led OU to a 2-0 record over the last week, recording wins over both Oklahoma State and Central Arkansas.
The junior rang up 20 strikeouts in 11 innings of action (1.82 Ks per inning) while allowing just five hits and an opponents’ batting average of .128. Ricketts opened with five innings of action against OSU, striking out seven of the 22 batters she faced while allowing just one run, one walk and four hits. The USA National Team pitcher followed that with her sixth one hit game this season at Central Arkansas as she struck out 13 of the 20 batters she faced (65 percent) in a six-inning run-rule victory over the Bears.
The Californian did not allow a walk in the win as she got out of the game throwing just 78 pitches. With the two wins, Ricketts moved to 25-6 on the year.
Ricketts and the rest of the No. 3/4 Sooners host No. 8/10 Texas this weekend in a three-game series that is pivotal to the Big 12 race. Action gets underway Friday at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday at 2 p.m. The series wraps up on Sunday at 12 p.m.
