Casey Named to Australian Open Women's Team

Sophomore to represent home nation at World Cup, Canadian Open

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma infielder Georgia Casey is one of 22 players selected to play for the 2013 Australian Open Women's Team, Softball Australia has announced.

A native of Sydney, Australia, Casey has been chosen to participate in two events this summer: the US World Cup VIII in Oklahoma City, July 10-14, and the Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch Women's International Championship in Surrey, British Columbia, July 16-22.

Casey is one of four players that are currently playing in the NCAA that were invited to play for Australia, joining Michelle Cox of San Jose State, Simone Freeman of Oklahoma State and Kaia Parnaby of Hawaii.

A sophomore at OU, Casey has already enjoyed playing time for her home country. She was named to the 2011 Softball Australia Junior Women's World Championship Team and was named best pitcher at both the 2011 U19 Australian National Championship and 2010 Open Australian Championships.

2013 Australian Open Women's Team

Last year as a freshman at Oklahoma, Casey was named to the All-Big 12 First team as she hit .339 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI in 69 games.

This season, Casey has started all 19 games at second base for the Sooners and is hitting .320 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in.
