NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma softball team rode its pitching staff to a pair of shutouts on Sunday afternoon in the final games of the Fall Festival. OU pitchers combined to give up just one hit in each game, while the bats provided all the runs necessary to cap off a 5-0 weekend.
In game one of their doubleheader, the Sooners were led by Keilani Ricketts' performance in the circle. The senior struck out 17 batters and gave up just one infield single in a 7-0 win over Odessa College. Jessica Shults had the big hit in the first inning, smashing a three-run home run to center field. Leading 4-0 in the third inning, Brittany Williams added a two-run homer of her own to provide a cushion.
The Sooners cruised past Seminole State in the second game, 8-0, thanks once again to strong pitching. Michelle Gascoigne struck out 10 in five innings of work, while freshman Taylor Dewbery came on in relief and added another strikeout in one inning. Fellow freshman Erin Miller went 3-for-3 against Seminole State, including a double and home run.
Oklahoma returns to fall action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 against Butler Community College. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Marita Hynes Field.
