LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 13th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, falling to the Kansas Jayhawks, 4-2, Saturday afternoon. Senior Samantha Ricketts tied the Oklahoma career home run record with her solo shot in the fourth, but OU came up short at the end of the afternoon.

A pair of sophomores led Oklahoma (31-13, 8-4 Big 12) at the plate. Krystle Huey and Haley Anderson each tallied a 2-for-3 day. The two hit back-to-back in the lineup and Huey scored on an Anderson hit in the fifth inning. Ricketts was 1-for-2 with the home run and a walk, while junior Lindsey Vandever went 1-for-2, drawing one walk on the day.

Kansas (14-23, 4-6 Big 12) scored a one run in the first and three in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. Oklahoma answered with Ricketts’ long shot in the third. In the fifth, Huey reached on a triple to left center and scored on Anderson’s single through the left side.

In the top of the seventh, Oklahoma loaded the bases with one out as Vandever, Huey and Anderson all reached on singles, but the Sooners failed to get the tying run across the plate.

Starter D.J. Mathis went just two innings, giving up all four runs on the six hits. Three of the runs were earned as Mathis walked and struck out one batter each. Freshman Allee Allen pitched four innings, not allowing a hit or run to score. Allen fanned six batters.

Oklahoma returns home Wednesday evening, hosting Oklahoma State in the first game of the Bedlam Series. First pitch from the OU Softball Complex is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
