FULLERTON, Calif. - Looking to rebound from a loss earlier in the day, the 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team was unable to overcome a shaky start to fall 5-4 to San Jose State Friday evening at the Judi Garman Classic.

The Spartans (21-7) scored all five runs in the first two innings. The Sooners (24-6) scored three in the third and one in the fifth but left the bases loaded twice down the stretch.

Starter Allee Allen (2-1) went 1.2 innings, allowing three runs and three walks. Reliever Michelle Gascoigne pitched 3.1 innings, allowing the final two SJSU runs.

San Jose State out-hit the Sooners, 8-7 and both teams committed one error.

Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for Allen in the top of the first. After a double play, designated player Ursula Lopez was hit by a pitch to reload the base and Natasha Hawkins walked to score Alyssa Sulay. In the second, Sarah Taylor delivered a two-out single and Sulay walked before Allen was pulled in favor of Gascoigne.

Gascoigne gave up a single to Kelli Fangonilo and Brittany McConnell reached on a fielding error to score Taylor. Lopez came through with a bases-clearing double to give the Spartans a 5-0 lead.

The Sooners finally got on the board in the third. Krystle Huey reached on a fielder's choice and Amber Flores walked to put two runners on base. Jessica Shults brought both runners home on her ninth home run of the season. Oklahoma added one run in the fifth when Flores scored on a wild pitch.

Oklahoma closes out play at the Judi Garman Classic Saturday morning with an 11 a.m. CT contest against Virginia.
