OKLAHOMA CITY – The sixth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 16 Northwestern on Sunday after at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The Sooners (17-6) tallied three hits on the afternoon but stranded five runners. The Wildcats (12-7) got a two-out sixth inning home run to left center by Erin Dyer to put the only run of the game on the board.

Oklahoma put its first base runner on in the top of the third when sophomore Chana’e Jones drew a two-out walk. Jones was caught stealing to end the inning. In the top of the fourth, Oklahoma got two hits as junior Amber Flores reached on an infield single and moved to second on a single to right by senior Samantha Ricketts. Junior catcher Lindsey Vandever reached on a fielder’s choice as Flores was thrown out at third. Despite having runners in scoring position, OU stranded two to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Oklahoma put two runners on base with two outs after sophomore Dani Dobbs was hit by a pitch and Jones singled up the middle. After freshman Evan Sallis walked to load the bases, Flores flied out to right to end the inning. Oklahoma went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings.

Freshman Kirsten Allen (5-3) went the distance for Oklahoma, allowing six hits and the one run. Allen walked two on  the day.

Lauren Delaney (12-6) got the win for the Wildcats, striking out seven and walking two.

Oklahoma opens Big 12 play Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader at Texas Tech. First pitch between the Sooners and Lady Raiders is set for 1:30 p.m. CDT at Johnson Field.
