  QUICK RECAP

NORMAN - The 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team improved to 2-0 at home this year with a 7-0 victory over in-state rival Tulsa on Wednesday evening. The Sooners (12-2) scored three runs each in the first and second innings and added a single run in the sixth to take down the Golden Hurricane (7-8).

  THE DIFFERENCE

Freshman Keilani Ricketts (8-2) got the win in her first home start of the season. Ricketts struck out eight batters, only giving up three hits and one walk. Ricketts pitched her sixth complete game of the season, recording her fifth shutout of 2010. Sophomore Katie Norris led the way at the plate, finishing 2-for-3. Norris drove in two runs and drew a walk. Junior Chana'e Jones and Ricketts each went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

  SCORING SUMMARY

OU got on the board early as freshman Brianna Turang led off with a base hit, later advancing to second on a successful steal attempt. Jones drew a walk Amber Flores and senior drove in the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly, scoring Turang. Freshman Jessica Shults then brought in Jones. Junior Haley Nix added her third home run of the season to give OU a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. The Sooners opened up the bottom of the second with back-to-back home runs by Ricketts and Norris. Ricketts’ home run was the first of her career as a Sooner. Norris also belted her first of the season. Shults later added a run with her single through the right side to score sophomore Karolyne Long. Senior Lindsey Vandever led off the sixth inning with a two-out triple to center field and scored on an RBI single by Norris.

Oklahoma returns to action Friday evening 6 p.m. CT, as it hosts Nevada at the OU Softball Complex. On Saturday, the Sooners and 25th-ranked Oklahoma State meet in The Preview featuring Bedlam at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
