LAS VEGAS - The 13th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team closed out action at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic Sunday morning with a 10-0 five-inning win over Long Beach State. The Sooners continued their offensive explosion with 10 hits on the morning. Freshman Jessica Shults finished the game perfect at the plate and one single shy of the cycle. Shults hit her fifth home run of the season and second grand slam in the win.

  THE DIFFERENCE

Oklahoma's offensive output and solid pitching led to OU out-scoring opponents 40-6 over the weekend. The Sooners hit 12 total home runs and 25 extra-base hits. Oklahoma's pitchers combined for a 1.35 earned run average on the weekend.

  SCORING SUMMARY

OU scored in the top of the first inning when senior Amber Flores scored on Shults double to right field. The Sooners added two in the third when junior Haley Nix reached on a double and Flores was hit by a pitch. The two came around to score on Shults' triple off the right field wall. The scoring machine broke open in the fourth inning. Nix's triple to left field scored junior Dani Dobbs and freshman Brianna Turang. Shults' grand slam later in the inning scored Flores, Nix and junior Krystle Huey.

Oklahoma returns to action Thursday at the Cathedral City Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. OU opens action against San Diego State at 5:30 p.m. CT.
