FULLERTON, Calif. - Traci Dickenson's solo home run in the fourth inning was the game winner as the No. 5 Oklahoma softball team edged Nevada, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.

Junior pitcher D.J. Mathis improved to 2-0 this season with the shutout while the Sooners moved to 2-1 and Nevada fell to 1-2.

Oklahoma will resume the Freeway Series Tournament at 5 p.m. (CST) Saturday as it takes on No. 21 Cal State Fullerton on the Titans home field in Fullerton, Calif.

Offensively, Oklahoma recorded six hits and Dickenson tallied half of them with her 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Iver McDonald, Savannah Long and Wendy Trott each added one hit a piece.

Mathis had another solid performance in the circle after earning a win less than 24 hours ago against UC Santa Barbara on Friday night. The lefty struck out seven and only walked two batters while allowing only three hits and no runs in seven innings.

Through two games this season, Mathis owns a 0.64 ERA and has only allowed five hits in 11 innings while recording 13 strikeouts.

Dickenson got the Sooners on the board in the bottom of the fourth with her one-out solo home run over the left center field wall. Nevada's center fielder snagged the ball over the fence but it fell out of her glove at the last minute giving Dickenson the home run. The run gave Oklahoma the 1-0 lead after four complete innings.

The Wolf Pack opened the sixth frame with back-to-back singles and looked to have momentum. However, Mathis struck out the next batter and retired the following two batters as the Sooners escaped the inning. It marked the only time the entire game that the Wolf Pack had more than one base runner in an inning.

Dickenson recorded her third hit of the day with a two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth. Next, Long reached first after being hit by a pitch and the Sooners had two base runners. However, Trott flied out to left field to end the frame.
