Player Profile
Position:
Graduate Assistant Coach

One of the most decorated players in Oklahoma softball history, Ashli Barrett will continue her association with the program as a graduate assistant coach during the 2002 season. Barrett, a two-time All-American for the Sooners, enters her first year on the coaching staff after lettering the last four years in the program.

A four-year starter at catcher, Barrett was named as a second team All-American last year after having one of the best seasons of her career in which she hit .379 with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs. Her home run and RBI totals, along with her .720 slugging percentage, led the team. Barrett also garnered All-Midwest Region, All-Big 12 and All Big 12 Tournament honors in her final season.
The Oklahoma City native finished her stellar career ranked in the top 10 of 12 school offensive categories, including number one in RBIs and home runs, and ranked in the top 10 of eight school single-season lists. Some of Barrett's other individual accomplishments during her career include being named a two-time All-American, four-time All-Midwest Region and All-Big 12 performer, three-time Big 12 Player of the Week recipient, two-time All-Big 12 Tournament selection and an academic All-Big 12 honoree.

Barrett's successful individual performances paralleled OU's rise in national prominence. During her four seasons, Barrett helped the Sooners capture two Big 12 regular season titles (1998 & 1999), one Big 12 Tournament championship (2001), two NCAA Regional crowns (2000 & 2001) and one national championship (2000).

Following her senior year, Barrett was selected, along with fellow teammates Lisa Carey and Kelli Braitsch, to compete with 48 other individuals for spots on the 2001 USA National Teams. Barrett will graduate with a bachelor's degree in sociology in May of 2002.
