NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior Michelle Alexander and sophomore Kathryn Watson were named to Capital One Academic All-District VII women’s soccer second team on Friday.

The Sooners were one of three Big 12 schools represented on the academic teams as Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas also had honorees.

Alexander, a three-time All-Big 12 first team member and energy management major, made her third appearance as an academic all-district honoree, a first by a Sooner in the program’s history.  Watson, a health and exercise science major, made her first appearance on the list as freshman are not eligible.

OU has been represented on the academic all-district team in each of the last nine years and has multiple honorees in six of those seasons.  Alexander was named to the second team a year ago and the third team in 2009.

Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games as a starter or key reserve.  The student athlete also must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution.

Earlier this week, OU had 10 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team including Alexander and Watson, the most under head coach Nicole Nelson and the third most in program history behind the 11 in 2005 and the 12 in 2000.

Alexander and Watson were joined by Bailey Boulware, Sage Coralli, Dria Hampton, Lisa Jett, Kelsey Kraft, Caitlin Mooney, Katharine Nutman and Brianna Turang on the first team while Samantha Howell and Amy Petrikin were second team honorees.
