Five Things to Watch: Soccer Hosts LSU

Monday at 7 p.m.

Aug. 20, 2012

NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU soccer team continues the current four-game homestand on Monday night against LSU at 7 p.m. at John Crain Field. The Sooners also have Nicholls State and Vanderbilt on the home slate next weekend.

Below are five things to watch Monday as the Sooners look to build off Friday's 2-1 win over Nebraska:

1. Talented Tigers Stand in the Way of a 2-0 Start
For the first time since 2009, OU has a chance to kick off the season with two straight wins. That squad three years ago started 4-0 with wins over Missouri State, Sam Houston State, Oral Roberts and Tulsa. The present task will not be easy as LSU was 13-8-1 under head coach Brian Lee in 2011 and returns six starters from the team that finished first in the SEC West at 8-3-0. The Tigers were picked to finish second in SEC West this season behind former Big 12 member Texas A&M. The Aggies ended the Tigers' postseason run a year ago in College Station during the first round of the NCAA tournament.

2. Home Field Advantage
After over 400 fans came out to watch last weekend's exhibition game against Tulsa, a crowd of 832 fans witnessed OU kick off the 2012 slate with an exciting 2-1 win over Nebraska. The increase in attendance was evident last season as well when four of the top 10 crowds at John Crain Field were recorded, including a program-best 2,002 fans against Oklahoma State on Sept. 30.

While OU, now 1-0 after Friday's win over Nebraska, will look to feed off another great hometown crowd, the Sooners will have one other advantage over LSU on Monday night. LSU did not play a preseason game and Monday’s contest marks the 2012 season opener for the Tigers.

3. 2011 Rematch with LSU
The Sooners are 0-4-1 all-time against the Tigers, which have won the last three meetings. The two met in Baton Rouge in 2011 and LSU prevailed by a 2-1 score. The Sooners are 0-1-1 in games played at the OU Soccer Complex against the Tigers. In 2008, LSU topped OU 4-0 in Norman, but the Sooners tied the Tigers, 2-2, in 1999.

4. Devonshire Dazzles in Goal
While senior Renae Cuellar stole the show, offensively, on Friday night against Nebraska with two goals, senior goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire was making saves left and right in the second half to help give OU its first win over the Huskers since 2004. Devonshire made seven saves in the second half and several were is spectacular diving fashion. She has allowed one goal or less in 33 of her 62 career starts.

5. Tickets and Promotions
Season tickets are on sale now for purchase online and by phone (800-456-GoOU). Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Single-game tickets are also on sale and will also be available at the gate the day of the game. Below is a look at some of the promotions planned for Monday night:
