NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma soccer program’s game on Oct. 19 at West Virginia will be nationally televised by the Fox Soccer Channel as the network’s NSCAA Game of the Week.  The game in Morgantown is the first-ever meeting between the Sooners and Mountaineers.

It also marks the first selection of an Oklahoma game by the coaches’ association, which selected two Big 12 Conference contests for the 2012 season (Oct. 26 Oklahoma State at Texas Tech).

"To be part of the NSCAA game of the week is a privilege,” said head coach Matt Potter, who enters his first season at the Sooners’ helm.  “The NSCAA continues to provide opportunities for our sport and we are excited to play a small part by playing in this game.”

The 2012 season is the first in Big 12 play for West Virginia, who joined the conference along with TCU this summer.

The Mountaineers were 17-5 overall last year and 10-1 in league play before falling in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the program’s 12th straight postseason appearance.  WVU finished the year ranked ninth in the nation and returns seven starters from that squad.

“To face a talented West Virginia team, with such a great tradition, is exciting for us as we start a new chapter for Oklahoma soccer,” added Potter.  “Coach Izzo-Brown is a respected peer and her success with the program is one we hope to mirror going forward.”

“I've never been to Morgantown but hear it is a wonderful college environment with a great fan base and game atmosphere. We look forward to the challenge and we are excited to be part of the NSCAA game of the week."

Coach Izzo-Brown offered similar sentiments and complimented Potter and his work at Washington State.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to showcase WVU women’s soccer throughout the country,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We have been featured in the past as the NSCAA College Game of the Week, and we are very excited to be part of the FOX Soccer broadcast once again.

“(Oklahoma coach) Matt Potter did some great things at Washington State and will make an immediate impact with the Sooners this fall. I know our fans will be excited to come out and watch a very competitive match at Dick Dlesk.”

OU returns all but three starters for the 2012 season, including a pair of three-year starters in goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire and midfielder Katharine Nutman. The Sooners (7-13 overall, 2-6 Big 12) finished the 2011 season with its second straight appearance in the Big 12 Championship, a first since the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
