NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma Head Soccer Coach Matt Potter announced the signing of five athletes to National Letters of Intent on Friday, Feb.3.

The signees joining OU for the 2012 season include Devin Barrett (Corona, Calif.), Jade Dapaah (Bedford, Texas), Katie Marcheso (Littleton, Colo.), Madison Smith (Edmond, Okla.) and Kenzie Sublett (Norman, Okla.). OU also announced the addition of Martha Turrentine (Plano, Texas), who signed an agreement to enroll at the University of Oklahoma in the fall. In December, the Sooners also added Cassidy Nangle (Issaquah, Wa.,) to a financial aid agreement.

The Sooners added depth at every position and in addition to landing two of the state of Oklahoma's best in Smith and Sublett, they also landed some of the nation's top talent from California, Colorado, Texas and Washington. The seven newcomers will join a team in the fall that returns 10 starters and 20 letterwinners and finished 7-13 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play last season.

"With what is an exciting new chapter for our program, we are extremely delighted to welcome the 2012 class to our program," said Potter, who begins his first year as the head coach at Oklahoma in the fall after nine years at the helm at Washington State. "This class compliments our current roster and, together, we look to create a bright future for Sooner soccer."

Below is a brief bio on each newcomer. Click on the links below or to the right to learn more about each player.

Barrett is a four-year letterwinner and three-time all-conference honoree from Mater Dei High School (Calif.) where she played for head coach Matty West. The defender/midfielder posted 16 goals and 14 assists in the last three seasons and led the team in scoring as a junior (eight goals and six assists). On the club level, Barrett played for nationally recognized Slammers Football Club under coach Ziad Khoury. She also played for the Cal South Olympic Development Program from 2005-2009.

"Devin is an extremely experienced youth player starring for the Slammers in Southern California," said Potter. "We are hoping her previous experience transfers right away into the collegiate game and she can make the impact that we know she can. As a forward, she has a unique knack for goals and we are expecting Devin to be a danger in and around the box."

Depaah lettered three years at Grapevine High School (Texas) where she played under Ryan Davis and was named all-district on three occasions. She was recently named to the ESPN H.S. Class of 2012 Defenders to Watch list after helping her high school team to the region semifinals. Her club team, Solar Soccer Club, was the 2010 National Champions and is coached by Adrian Solca. Her father, Danny, was a member of the men's soccer team at Tulsa University in 1993 and her mother ran track for the Golden Hurricane (1992-94).

"Jade is a talented young defender," said Potter. "She has a great ability to read the game and attack from the back. Her soccer ability, coupled alongside her terrific power and athleticism, is going to allow her to compete immediately in the Big 12. Starring for the Solar soccer club in Dallas, she has been in as competitive environment as there is. She shined in that environment and we expect her to continue such levels in Norman."

Marcheso is a three-year letterwinner from Green Mountain High School (Colorado) under head coach Ken Fehr where she was named all-state in 2011. Marcheso, who is ranked No. 144 on ESPN H.S. top 150 college prospects's list for 2012, scored 10 goals last season as she helped lead her high school team to the state semifinals, the team's third straight appearance in the state playoffs. Marcheso plays club soccer for Real Colorado, the 2006 Colorado State Cup Champion and five-time finalist (2007-11) under coach Lorne Donaldson.

"Katie will add great vision and creativity to our midfield," said Potter. "Playing with Real Colorado, she has traveled all over the country and has competed extremely well against the very best. We are looking forward to watching Katie display her talents in the midfield."

Smith owns three letters from Deer Creek High School (Okla.) under head coach Stuart Hilton. She helped her prep team to the 2009 State Championship and a runner-up finish in 2011 while scoring 41 goals and 22 assists in the last three years. The midfielder has twice been named all-district (2009 and 2010) and was ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the region by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Smith plays club soccer with fellow signee Kenzie Sublett for Oklahoma Football Club under Stephen Phillips. The club team has won the last three state championships.

"Madi is an attacking-minded player with great ability to strike from range," said Potter. "She can play both in the midfield and as a forward and possesses the technical ability to be an attacking threat in this conference. She has competed on the highest stage in and around this region with the Oklahoma Football Club. We know that competing on such a stage will allow her the chance to shine right away."

Sublett is a three-year letterwinner from Norman North High School (Okla.) where she played for head coach Don Rother and was listed as one of the top prospects in Oklahoma for 2012 by ESPN H.S. The defender/midfielder has tallied 35 goals in her three prep seasons and was named all-district in 2010 and 2011. Sublett plays club soccer with fellow signee Madison Smith for Oklahoma Football Club under Stephen Phillips. The club team has won the last three state championships.

"Kenzie is a very athletic defender," said Potter. "She possesses raw pace and a work ethic that is going to make her very effective as an outside back at this level. She has worked with some terrific coaches over at Oklahoma Football Club, so we know she will be prepared to play right away."

Turrentine is a three-year letterwinner at John Paul II High School under head coach Steven Harvey. The goalkeeper is a three-time all-state honoree, including first team honors in each of the last two seasons. In 2011, she helped lead her team to the state semifinals while being named to the all-tournament team. On the club level, she played for nationally recognized Sting Soccer Club and she was also part of the North Texas Olympic Development Program from 2005-2008.

"We are expecting Libbie to compete right away as one of the top two goalkeepers on our roster," said Potter. "Libbie has a strong and powerful physique. She has played with and against some of the best youth players in the country with Sting Soccer Club out of Dallas. These experiences are ones we hope will have Libbie prepared to compete with Kelsey (Devonshire) for the starting position."
