OU to compete on Oklahoma River three times including April 28 Big 12 Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione and Head Rowing Coach Leeanne Crain announced the Sooners' 2011-12 schedule Friday. The schedule is highlighted with the Big 12 Championships at Oklahoma City’s downtown Oklahoma River on April 28.
The fall season kicks off Oct. 1 with the Head of the Oklahoma on the Oklahoma River. Fall regattas include the Head of the Charles in Boston, Head of the Colorado in Austin, Texas, and Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn.
“We’ve got a very challenging schedule that will present us with some key opportunities against some big opponents in the regular season,” Crain said. “I think we've got a very balanced schedule that includes competition against most of the top rowing conferences."
OU spring season begins on March 9 with the OU Invitational in Oklahoma City. The season continues with the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, the San Diego Crew Classic in San Diego, Calif., and the Michigan/Ohio State regatta in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Following regular season action, the post season begins with the Big 12 Championship on April 28, the Conference USA Championship in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on April 14. The season concludes with the NCAA regatta on May 25-27.
“I'm excited about this year's team, Crain said. "As we enter our fourth year, we've now got some strong leadership from our upper classmen. These guys know what it takes to win races and how committed we need to be to the training in order to find the success out on the race course. it should be a fun year."
