NORMAN, Okla. – Nikki Furmanek was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Friday. This is Furmanek’s second consecutive year to receive the honor.
The Capital One Academic All-District honors recognize the nation’s top-student-athletes for their combined performances, athletically and in the classroom.
Furmanek has rowed in the three seat of the varsity eight this season. She and her crew went undefeated from March 9-March 31, earned the Conference USA Boat of the Week award for March 20 and May 1, received the Big 12’s Boat of the Month award in March, and won the Big 12 varsity eight title in May. Individually, Furmanek was named the Conference USA Rowing Athlete of the Year and was chosen as the MVP of the 2011-12 Sooner team. She was also chosen to be a member of the All-Big 12 First Team.
This rower’s achievements also go beyond the river where she was named to the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll, was a Conference USA Academic Medal Winner, made Academic All-Big 12 First Team and was named to Conference USA’s All-Academic Team.
Furmanek is an Elementary Education senior from Belleville, Ill. All the Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
