Sooners Seek Conference USA Title

Oklahoma heads to Oak Ridge Tenn., for the C-USA Championship

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma rowing team competes in the Conference USA Championship in Oakridge, Tenn., this Saturday, May 12 and will face SMU, Tulsa, UCF, Alabama, Tennessee, Kansas, Kansas State and Texas in the one-day event. Competition begins with preliminary heats at 9 a.m. as the top three boats from each heat will advance to the grand final in the afternoon session while the remaining teams compete in the petite finals beginning at 2:20 p.m. The Sooners are coming off a second-place overall finish at the Big 12 Championship and seek their first ever Conference USA Title.


Oklahoma will field five boats during the weekend with the varsity eight kicking off competition against SMU, Tulsa, UCF and Kansas at 9:00 a.m. in the first heat of its event. The varsity eight were named C-USA's Boat of the Week for March 20 and May 1 this year while going undefeated from March 9-March 31, beat out Texas as OU finished second at the Big 12 Championship on April 28 and was named the No. 1 seed for this weekend in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The second varsity eight will face Kansas State, Tennessee and Tulsa at 9:30 a.m. in the second heat of its event while the varsity four will face SMU, Tennessee, UCF and Kansas State at 9:40 a.m. in the first heat of its event.

The novice eight competes at 10:10 a.m. in the second heat of its event against UCF, Tennessee and Alabama and the varsity open four will close competition for the preliminary heats as it begins competition at 10:30 a.m. against Tulsa and Tennessee.
