NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma vice president for intercollegiate athletics programs and director of athletics Joe Castiglione and head women's gymnastics coach K.J. Kindler announced OU's 2012 schedule Wednesday.

“This year’s schedule is an inspiring one,” Kindler said. “Our team will have to bring it every week, whether on the road or at home.  We will be tested early and throughout the season.  We travel east, west, north and south.  We know that the national exposure of meeting teams in all different conferences across the country will help prepare our team for NCAA Championships.”

In total, the Sooners will face 10 teams that finished in the top 25 last season with six of those teams finishing in the top 10.

The Sooners enter the 2012 season after their second straight top three finish at the NCAA Super Six Team Finals.  OU faces four of the other five 2011 Super Six finalists in 2012, including defending national champion Alabama, and second-place finisher UCLA in back-to-back meets.

OU will see Alabama at the Lloyd Noble Center on March 2 for Senior Night in Norman before travelling to UCLA on March 11 at the Wooden Center.

OU will also compete against Nebraska and Michigan in 2012, both teams competed in the 2011 Super Six and finished in fourth and sixth place respectively. The Huskers come to Norman on Feb. 3, for a quad meet with Minnesota and Centenary while Michigan and TWU appear at the LNC on Feb. 24.

“Our home schedule will absolutely electrify Sooner Fans,” Kindler said. “We start with the very popular ‘Beauty and The Beast’ competition with OU Wrestling and we end with Senior Night against Alabama, the reigning 2011 National Champions.  Then top it off by hosting the Big 12 Championships. If that’s not excitement, I don’t know what is.”

For the fifth time in conference history, the Sooners will host the 2012 Big 12 Championship at the LNC on Saturday, March 24 at 4 p.m.

The Sooners have won four Big 12 titles in the last eight years, including three straight championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The Sooner gymnasts will host the fifth annual “Beauty and the Beast” night with OU wrestling on Jan. 27 in the gymnasts’ 2012 home opener against N.C. State.

OU will compete in the Perfect 10 Challenge on Feb. 10, at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.  The competition is hosted by Bart Conner Gymnastics as part of the 2012 Nadia Comaneci Invitational.

“We look forward to stimulating a new crowd in Oklahoma City when we compete at the Nadia Invitational for the first time in program history,” Kindler said. “Competing on the podium will allow our team one more opportunity to prepare for the pressure of NCAA Championships.”

Headlining the Sooners’ road meets are matchups with Oregon State on Jan. 13 and Arkansas on Feb. 5.  Both teams qualified for NCAA Championships in 2011, the Beavers finished eighth overall while Arkansas finished 10th.

OU will also see Ohio State, Kentucky, Missouri, Bowling Green, Utah State, Centenary, TWU and Wisconsin-Oshkosh in its road schedule.

The 2012 NCAA Championships will be held at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., on April 20-22.

OU returns 22 of 24 routines from last year’s team, including all 11 All-Americans from 2011.
