NORMAN, Okla. - Megan Ferguson of Oklahoma women's gymnastics was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-American Women's At-Large Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday.
The Capital One Academic All-America honor recognize the nation's top-student-athletes for their combined performances, athletically and in the classroom.
Ferguson ended her Sooner career with a second place finish on beam at the 2012 NCAA Event Finals.
The senior collected seven All-America honors during her four years at OU and was a three-time Big 12 Individual Champion.
Ferguson was stellar in her senior season. In addition to her second-place finish at NCAAs on beam, the Olathe, Kan.-native finished the regular season ranked in the top two on all three events she competed (No. 1 on beam and floor, No. 2 on bars), won the Big 12 Championship on both bars and beam and was one of six finalists for the AAI Award for Outstanding Senior Gymnast.
Ferguson was also named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 first team for the third straight season.
Ferguson recently graduated from OU with a bachelor's degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising. Ferguson will pursue a master's degree in adult and higher education this fall.
