NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma women’s gymnasts Erica Brewer and Megan Ferguson won two of the three Big 12 weekly awards, announced by the conference Tuesday.  Brewer was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week while Ferguson earned Event Specialist of the Week for Feb. 21.

Brewer earned Gymnast of the Week after winning the all-around title in OU’s win over No. 16 Missouri with a score of 39.300 in her first career all-around competition.  Brewer is the only freshman in the Big 12 to compete in the all-around this year.

Brewer made her first appearance in the beam lineup at Missouri after stepping in for Rebecca Clark who suffered a season-ending injury in practice.

Brewer and Ferguson shared the beam title after both gymnasts scored career-highs of 9.95 on the event.  With the 9.95, Brewer is now ranked No. 1 nationally on beam while Ferguson is fourth.

Ferguson earned Event Specialist of the Week for the third straight week after winning a share of the beam title as well as the floor title in OU’s win over Missouri last Friday.  Along with her 9.95 on beam, the senior posted a 9.925 on floor and a team-best 9.85 on bars to finish in second place.

Ferguson has scored a 9.9 or higher in nine of her last 12 routines, including four straight beam routines and three straight floor routines.

An OU gymnast has won all seven of the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week awards and has won Gymnast of the Week a league best three times this season.

Brewer, Ferguson and the Sooners host a tri-meet with No. 21 Michigan and TWU on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Friday is Mardi Gras Masquerade night at OU women’s gymnastics. The first 500 fans will receive light-up OU necklaces while 50-cent hot dogs and cokes will be available for purchase at the meet while supplies last. Bring your own mask or make one on the concourse prior to the meet while supplies last.
