Spears Ranked No. 1 on Beam

NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior Taylor Spears moved to No. 1 nationally on beam and the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team remained at No. 2 in the country in the newest GymInfo rankings.

The Sooners' team average of 197.125 puts them ahead of No. 3 Michigan at 196.867 and just behind No. 1 Florida at 197.296. It is the fourth-straight week OU has been ranked No. 2.

Spears leads the country with a 9.9 average on beam and is coming off a career-best score of 9.975 on Friday at Iowa State. The Plano, Texas, native has three scores of 9.925 or better on beam this season, helping OU to a No. 1 team ranking on the apparatus. In addition, Spears is nationally ranked No. 6 in the all-around and No. 17 on bars.

The Sooners lead the country on beam for the fourth-straight week, currently holding a 49.358 average. OU also ranks No. 4 on bars and floor and No. 7 on vault nationally.

Sophomore Erica Brewer's all-around average of 39.345 is good for No. 11 in the country while her 9.87 average on bars comes in at No. 8 and her 9.86 beam average is ranked No. 13.

Oklahoma has a total of four gymnasts ranked in the top 25 on beam, the most of any other team. Joining Spears and Brewer are sophomore Lauren Alexander at No. 8 and junior Madison Mooring at No. 19.

Freshman Haley Scaman continues to hold her ranking in the top 10 and No. 1 ranking among freshmen overall on floor, coming in at No. 8 overall with a 9.895 average. Senior Brie Olson is also ranked, coming in at No. 14 with a 9.879 average.

Oklahoma will next compete at the Perfect 10 Challenge, part of the Bart & Nadia Sports & Health Festival, on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. CT at the COX Convention Center in Oklahoma City.
