Spears, Scaman and Kmieciak all honored by the Big 12.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior Taylor Spears was named Gymnast of the Week, freshman Haley Scaman was named Specialist of the Week and freshman Keeley Kmieciak was named Newcomer of the Week as the the Oklahoma gymnastics team swept the Big 12 weekly awards for the second time this season Tuesday.
The award is Spears' second Gymnast of the Week honor already this season and fourth overall. This is Scaman's second weekly award and the first recognition for Kmieciak.
Spears won three individual titles in OU's home opener vs. No. 11 Denver, taking the vault, beam and all-around titles, giving her six individual titles this season. The junior tied her career highs in the vault (9.9) and beam (9.925) while shattering her previous career high of 39.400 with a score of 39.550 in the all-around against the Pioneers. Spears helped the Sooners to their highest team score of the season and their highest score ever in a home opener.
A freshman in her first-career home meet, Scaman won the floor title with a career-high score of 9.925, a season best by any Sooner and a score that has helped Scaman rank eighth in the nation in the event this season. The Riverside, Ill., native also added identical scores of 9.825 on vault and bars in Friday's win and has now won three event titles this year.
Kmieciak set personal bests in two events and in the all-around against No. 11 Denver, including a 9.9 score on bars that was tops among all competitors, giving the freshman her first individual title of her career. Kmieciak excelled in front of a home crowd of 2,389 fans, adding scores of 9.825 on floor, 9.825 on beam and 9.8 on vault for a 39.350 all-around score.
OU now has won eight of nine Big 12 weekly awards in three weeks this season.
The Sooners face multiple nationally ranked teams this weekend at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday, Jan. 26. Competing against OU will be No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Georgia, No. 16 Oregon State and Washington at the Fort Worth Convention Center at 7 p.m. CT.
