Sooners Ranked No. 2 in the Nation

OU moves to second spot after big win over Denver on Friday.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Following one of the best team scores in program history on Friday, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is ranked No. 2 in the nation according to the GymInfo Top 25 released Monday.

The Sooners have an average team score of 196.825 through the first three meets of the season. OU most recently totaled a 197.325 in a win over No. 11 Denver, the 10th-highest team score in program history and the highest ever in a home opener.

Michigan is currently ranked in the top spot with an average of 196.942. After OU, Florida (196.817), UCLA (196.788) and Alabama (196.513) round out the top five.

OU is ranked No. 1 in the nation on beam with an average score of 49.275. The team's score of 49.350 against Denver is the best mark any team has scored in a meet this year. The Sooners are also ranked No. 4 on floor (49.283), No. 7 on bars (49.125) and No. 8 on vault (49.142).

In the national individual rankings, OU is the only team in the country with three different gymnasts ranked in the top 12 in the all-around. Junior Taylor Spears is ranked No. 8 in the country averaging a 39.400 while sophomore Erica Brewer is one spot back at No. 9 with a 39.388 average. Coming in at No. 12, senior Brie Olson is averaging a 39.325.

In other rankings, Brewer's average of 9.9 on beam is good for a No. 4 ranking with Spears ranking No. 11 (9.875) and Olson ranking No. 14 (9.867) in the same event. The Sooners have three ranked gymnasts on floor, led by freshman Haley Scaman at No. 8 averaging a 9.9 followed by Spears and Olson both ranked No. 24 with 9.867 averages. Brewer is also ranked No. 20 on bars, averaging a 9.85.

Oklahoma (3-0) will next compete at the Metroplex Challenge against some of the top team in the country, including No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Georgia, No. 16 Oregon State and Washington.
