NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma women’s gymnast Taylor Spears was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for Jan. 17, announced by the conference Tuesday.
The award is Spears’ fourth career Big 12 weekly award. Spears was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week three times in the 2011 season.

This is the second consecutive week that an OU gymnast was named Event Specialist of the Week. Junior Brie Olson took home the honors last week after winning the individual event titles on vault, bars and beam in the Sooners’ home opener at the Kentucky Classic.
Other conference honorees this week were Missouri’s Mary Burke (Gymnast of the Week) and Rachel Updike (Newcomer of the Week).
