Olson Named Event Specialist of the Week

After winning three titles Saturday, Olson named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week.

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma women’s gymnast Brie Olson was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for Jan. 10, announced by the conference Tuesday.

Olson won the vault, bar and floor titles at “Excite Night at the Kentucky Classic” Saturday, helping OU to a first-place finish over No. 23 Kentucky, Bowling Green and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Olson tied her career-high of 9.9 on vault to share the event title with teammate Sara Stone. Olson’s only other career vault title was during the 2010 Big 12 Championship.

Olson, one of OU's four returning All-Americans, also won the bar and floor titles with a score of 9.85 on both events.

The award is Olson’s first career Big 12 weekly honor. Other conference honorees this week were Iowa State's Michelle Browning (Gymnast of the Week) and Missouri's Rachel Updike (Newcomer of the Week).

OU faces its first of five top 10 matchups this season this weekend as the Sooners compete against No. 7 Oregon State on Friday, Jan. 13 in Corvallis, Ore., at 9 p.m. CT.
