Oct. 27, 2012
NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team will compete in its final tournament of the fall season Oct. 28-30 (Sunday-Tuesday) at the Alamo Invitational. The 15-team tournament will take place at the 6,428-yard, par-72 Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas.
The Sooners are No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings after their 29-stroke victory last week at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman. It is the highest team ranking in the program's history.
“We’re excited to be in San Antonio for our last event,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We came here in 2009 and absolutely loved the tournament.”
OU, which shot a school-record 859 (-5) at the Susie Maxwell, will be joined in the 12-team Alamo Invitational field by six other top-40 schools: No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 29 Baylor, No. 33 Kentucky, No. 35 Texas State, No. 36 SMU and No. 39 LSU. Also competing will be Colorado, East Carolina, Louisville, Tulane and host UTSA.
Junior Chirapat Jao-Javanil will compete in the No. 1 position for the Sooners. The reigning national champion, Jao-Javanil is coming off of her first season individual title of the year (and fourth of her career) at the Susie Maxwell. She shot a 7-under 209 last week to notch a two-stroke win.
Junior Anne-Catherine Tanguay will play in the No. 2 slot after posting a fourth-place finish at the Susie Maxwell. Tanguay recorded a team-best 18-hole score of 67 (-5) in the final round to help her register her sixth career top-10 finish.
Competing in the No. 3 position in the Oklahoma lineup will be Emily Collins. The junior has placed in the top-20 in all three of this season's tournaments.
Senior Taylor Schmidt and junior Kaitlyn Rohrback round out the Oklahoma lineup in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.
The Sooners will begin teeing off Sunday afternoon at 12:20 and will be paired with Texas A&M and Texas State. Live stats will be available at GolfStat.com.
