Dye Wins WOGA Match Play Title

OU women's golfer defeats Christy Carter 4 and 3 to claim the championship.

NORMAN, Okla. - For the second consecutive summer, Kendall Dye is the owner of a Women's Oklahoma Golf Association (WOGA) championship. 

The Edmond native and OU senior-to-be defeated Christy Carter, 4 and 3, to win the championship flight and capture the 2008 WOGA Match Play Championship Friday at Winter Creek Golf Club in Blanchard.

Dye was also victorious at Winter Creek a year ago, claiming the 2007 WOGA Stroke Play Championship.

"It is such a tremendous honor to win the State Match Play Championship and be in the same company of all the past winners," Dye said. "Christy and I have competed over the years and to finally go against one another, head-to-head in a match play setting, I was excited to come out on top."

Last year as a junior at OU, Dye posted seven top-20 finishes, three top 10s, two top fives, and her first career win. Her individual title came at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, where she earned co-medalist honors with Carter, an Oral Roberts golfer from Tulsa.

Dye was also the co-medalist with Carter in the June 6 stroke play seeding round. She received the No. 1 seed for the match play tournament, and en route to the championship match defeated Purcell native and Baylor golfer Morgan Chambers 4 and 3, Enid's Aly Seng 5 and 4 and Pryor's Kamryn Ruffin, who will play for Tulsa in the fall, in 19 holes.

In her match against Ruffin, which Dye called her toughest, she was 2 up going into the 12th hole before falling 1 down with just one hole to play. The Sooner came through with a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to force extra holes, and birdied the first playoff hole to earn a spot in Friday's championship match. 

Dye is scheduled to play in the Texas Women's Open in Garland, Texas (June 25-26), the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier in Mission Hills, Kan. (July 8), the 106th North and South Women's Amateur Championship at Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 8 in Pinehurst, N.C. (July 13-20), the WOGA Stroke Play Championship in Ponca City, Okla. (July 28-29), the Fore State Championship at Southern Hills CC in Tulsa, Okla. (Aug. 11-12) and the WOGA Partnership Championship in Catoosa, Okla. (Aug. 18-19).

Dye will also compete in the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur in Eugene, Ore., Aug. 4-10 if she qualifies in Mission Hills.
