NORMAN, Okla. - The third-ranked Oklahoma women's golf team will travel to Mesa, Ariz., to compete in this weekend's Clover Cup, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The 16-team, 54-hole event will be held Friday through Sunday at the 6,209-yard, par-72 Longbow Golf Club.

The Clover Cup field includes five teams ranked in Golfweek's top 35. Teams participating with the Sooners will be No. 11 Texas Tech, No. 25 Notre Dame, No. 27 Northwestern, No. 35 SMU, Cincinnati,Colorado, Florida International, Georgetown, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska and Tulsa.

"This is an important stretch of our schedule because we have back-to-back tournaments and are playing against some great teams," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We've been practicing quite a bit since our last tournament and feel we've worked on strengthening some areas of our game."

Drouin-Luttrell's squad competed in last year's inaugural Clover Cup and is looking to improve on itssecond-place finish. The Sooners finished only one stroke behind Colorado and placed three golfers in the top 20 of the 2012 spring tournament.

"We love coming to the desert," said Drouin-Luttrell. "This course sets up really well for everyone and we just can't wait to get started."

Competing at the No. 1 position for OU will be junior Chirapat Jao-Javanil, who holds a team-low 72.2stroke average and is coming off a tie for third-place at last month's spring opener, the Match-Up Invitational in Florida.

Jade Staggs will play in the No. 2 slot for the Sooners after carding a career-best 54-hole score at the Match-Up Invitational. Staggs' 1-over 217 was good for a sixth-place tie, a personal collegiate-best finish.

Junior Anne-Catherine Tanguay and senior Taylor Schmidt, who each tied for 18th in Florida, will start in the No. 3 and 4 positions, respectively.

Making her spring debut, junior Kaitlyn Rohrback will compete in her fifth tournament of the season and play from the No. 5 position.

Additionally, junior Emily Collins will join the field and compete as an individual for OU.

The Sooners will tee off Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT. Each OU golfer will be paired with an opponent from Notre Dame and Texas Tech. Tee times will be assigned for Saturday's round, and Sunday's final round will commence with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT.
