DAZZLING DEFENSE
Oklahoma's defense has allowed fewer than 30 or fewer points in each of the last seven periods played. Since its loss to UCLA, OU has allowed just 138 first-half points (23 per game) and is holding opponents to 28.6 percent field goal shooting and 17.4 percent 3-point shooting. The Sooners are also forced a scoring drought of at least three minutes in each games since losing to UCLA.
Known more for her 3-point proficiency, junior guard Aaryn Ellenberg's defense is helping to turn the tide in OU's games. Ellenberg has nine steals in the past two games, seven of which have converted for 15 points off turnovers. Eight steals came in first halves as OU built leads, while the last in the second half versus Marist was followed by Ellenberg taking a charge the next possession during a 10-0 run that saw OU take a 61-50 advantage with 5 minutes to play.
KORNET SOUNDS OFF
Nicole Kornet had a stellar showing in her first appearance as a starter, replacing fellow freshman Maddie Manning due to injury, against Northwestern State on Nov. 29. Kornet made her first five field goals en route to a 19-point performance. Kornet was 7-for-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 on 3-pointers.
MANNING SUFFERS ACL TEAR
Freshman guard Maddie Manning suffered a season ending ACL tear in her right knee in practice Wednesday, Nov. 28. Manning had just been elevated to the starting lineup a week prior for Oklahoma's three games at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, Hawaii. In her first start versus Arkansas, Manning totaled 10 points and eight rebounds. She followed with outputs of 11 and 12 points, respectively, the next two games.
