NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale announced the signing of two student-athletes on the opening day of the early signing period Wednesday.

Lydnsey Cloman, a 6-foot-2 post from San Antonio, Texas , and Joanna McFarland, a 6-foot-2 post from Derby, Kan., signed National Letters of Intent with Oklahoma and will join the Sooners for the 2009-10 season.

Cloman and McFarland will help fill the void left by the departure of OU's three seniors, forwards Ashley Paris and Carolyn Winchester and center Courtney Paris.

McFarland, rated the 11th best post player and No. 38 overall by ESPN HoopGurlz and No. 36 overall by All Star Girls Report, averaged 21 points and 15 rebounds in her senior season at Derby High School. The youngest of three sisters -- Jessica played at Kansas State and Jackie at Colorado -- who played in the Big 12, McFarland was a unanimous choice for all-state honors.

"Joanna is the final McFarland sister to enter the Big 12 conference," Coale said, "and as good as Jessica and Jackie were respectively, Jo might just be the best of the bunch.

"She is an undersized post who can easily step out and score from the perimeter. She is tough and smart and afraid of no one. As skilled and smart as she is on the floor, her competitive drive is her ace. She just has impeccable grit. I love her fight."

McFarland, who chose Oklahoma over Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas and Oklahoma State, was a consensus all-state, all-class honoree in 2008.

Rated the No. 45 post player in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz and No. 125 overall by All Star Girls Report, Cloman averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds last season for William H. Taft High School. She was an all-district selection as a junior.

"Lyndsey is a strong, yet highly skilled post player," Coale said. "She is a tough, competitive kid who can battle at the block or step out and score from behind the arc. We love her passion for the game and her mindset."

Oklahoma's 2009 recruiting class has been rated among the top 20 by nearly all recruiting services.
