NORMAN, Okla. -- With several new faces on campus Monday for the first day of classes in the fall semester, the afternoon with the OU women's basketball program was devoted to orientation.
SoonerSports.com takes this unique behind-the-scenes look at a student-athlete's first responsibilities on a collegiate campus with video of the meeting.
The two-hour session inside the team's film room at the Lloyd Noble Center introduced the program's four freshmen to several of the support staff members and reminded the veterans of the many resources available at OU.
Invited to the session were members of the athletic department's academic advising and student life offices, community relations, compliance, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, law enforcement, marketing and promotions, media relations, psychological resources, sports medicine, and university administration.
Though the focus was to convey new and important information, many chose to also express to the team of what the program's tradition of excellence meant to themselves and fans with whom they interact. Everything from understanding NCAA rules to safety on campus to the marketing plan for the season was discussed with the group.
The video shows just a few minutes of the afternoon with the representatives, listed below, accounting for just a fraction of the hundreds of athletics department staff, university staff and volunteers that OU student-athletes encounter throughout their collegiate careers.
