NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's basketball team's quest for a third consecutive Final Four appearance begins near the home of one of its newest members and will run through the defending national champions.
Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs Joe Castiglione and head coach Sherri Coale released the team's schedule Monday following the announcement of the Big 12 Conference schedule.
Dates and times are subject to change upon release of the television broadcast schedule.
All-American Danielle Robinson, Whitney Hand, returning from last season's ACL injury, and the Sooners begin with the program's first true road-game season opener in seven years.
The Sooners start the 2010-11 calendar at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, located in the hometown of 6-foot-6 freshman center Nicole Griffin, one of six newcomers on the team, Saturday, Nov. 13.
From there, OU hosts six consecutive games at the Lloyd Noble Center, including a Thanksgiving week round-robin tournament with contests against Texas-Pan American, Gardner-Webb and Prairie View A&M Nov. 26-28.
Oklahoma visits Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 5 for its share of the Big Ten-Big 12 Challenge before returning to Norman to play Stephen F. Austin (Dec. 8) and New Mexico (Dec. 12).
The Sooners get a double dose of The Natural State, meeting the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on Dec. 19 and hosting Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Dec. 29, before wrapping their pre-conference schedule at TCU on Sunday, Jan. 2.
The Sooners open the Big 12 play in Lincoln, Neb., against the Cornhuskers on Saturday, Jan. 8, and play their first conference game at home against Kansas State on Jan. 12.
The Bedlam rivalry continues against Oklahoma State with meetings in Stillwater on Jan. 29 and in Norman on March 2.
Oklahoma visits Connecticut, the back-to-back national champions and owners of a 78-game winning streak, Monday, Feb. 14.
The Sooners' regular season ends Saturday, March 5, against Texas Tech in Lubbock.
A revamped 2011 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship will be played March 8-12, with an off-day on Thursday, March 10, in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium. With the new format, the women's and men's championship finals will be played on the same day for the first time in Big 12 history.
Oklahoma first takes to the court in exhibitions against Oklahoma Christian, Tuesday, Nov. 4, and Cameron University, Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Lloyd Noble Center. Both tip-offs are scheduled for 7 p.m.
