DALLAS, Texas -- Oklahoma trails West Virginia 44-25 at halftime of the Big 12 Championship quarterfinal at the American Airlines Center.
West Virginia’s Christina Caldwell scored 16 first-half points, hitting five of six 3-point attempts. The Sooners could not respond to the pace, missing 14 of 15 3-point attempts after Aaryn Ellenberg made her first try from beyond the arc to tie Oklahoma’s career record for 3-pointers.
Ellenberg hit her 99th 3-pointer of the season and 268th of her career, matching Erin Higgins’ total set from 2003-07, but picked three first-half fouls.
OU shot 24 percent from the field while West Virginia shook off a 3-for-11 start to finish at 44 percent.
Nicole Kornet leads the Sooners with seven points. Sharane Campbell has six.
Oklahoma reached the free throw line for its most attempts since the January matchup against the Mountaineers, but hit just 10 of 18 from the charity stripe.
The Sooners are 4-9 when tied or trailing at intermission and face their largest halftime deficit of the season.
Note to viewers in Texas: In the state of Texas, the game will be available to cable subscribers on FCS Central and to satellite providers through FOX Sports Oklahoma due to a Dallas Stars game being televised on FOX Sports Southwest.
