NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma's Sharane Campbell was voted Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Campbell shared co-player of the week honors with Baylor's Brittney Griner. It was Campbell's first player of the week selection after earning four freshman of the week awards last season.
Campbell averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in back-to-back season-best performances in Oklahoma's victories over West Virginia and Texas in the first week of Big 12 play.
Campbell scored a career-high 24 points and matched another career best with two blocks in OU's 78-70 victory at Texas Saturday, Jan. 5. The sophomore led a barrage of 3-pointers as OU used a 9-for-11 3-point performance, including a 14-0 scoring run, in the second-half to pull away. Campbell was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, all in the second half, after entering the game 3-for-21 this season.
On Jan. 2, Campbell totaled 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the Sooners' 71-68 win against West Virginia in their conference opener. After tying the Mountaineers eight times, the Sooners took their first lead with five minutes to play. Campbell scored five points following the final media timeout and grabbed two defensive rebounds in the final 1 ½ minutes that led to her game-deciding free throws.
Campbell becomes the second Sooner to be named player of the week. Aaryn Ellenberg was voted for the week of Dec. 18-25.
Oklahoma continues its road trip, visiting TCU Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.
