ATHENS, Ga. -- Oklahoma pulled even with 6:51 remaining, but couldn't contain No. 21 Georgia as the clock emptied.

Georgia opened its season with a 62-51 victory at Stegeman Coliseum and No. 13 Oklahoma fell to 1-1.

Porsha Phillips and Jasmine James each had 15 for the Dogs, who shot 48 percent from the field in the second half maintain its distance from Oklahoma.

Phillips had the most complete game, shooting 9-for-17, and stifled the Sooners' shooters, blocking four shots.

The Sooners trailed 22-18 at halftime and let Georgia expand the lead with a 13-2 run. OU managed to claw back into the game, but expired energy from its starting five and was not able to complete the final run.

The game was nearly the reverse of the matchup between the two teams in Norman two seasons ago when it was Amanda Thompson blocking shots and stopping the momentum as Georgia closed in the final minutes.

This time, it was Phillips who was the hero, stuffing Thompson twice in the second half.

Whitney Hand scored 13 for the Sooners and Abi Olajuwon had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Georgia thrived on the free throw line, where OU's presence was non-existent in the second half. The Dogs sank 9-of-13 from the charity stripe to help their cause while time expired.

Oklahoma meets TCU Saturday, Nov. 21, in Norman, Okla.
