Postgame Notes

Texas A&M 57, Oklahoma 56

Feb. 23, 2009

Recap |  Box Score

Nyeshia Stevenson started her second career game in place of injured freshman guard Whitney Hand.  Stevenson’s other start came in the 2007-08 season opener.

Stevenson’s 37 minutes were a career high, breaking her previous of 29 minutes against Oklahoma State on Jan. 12, 2008.

Courtney Paris recorded her 121st career double-double in her 127th game. It was Paris’ 125 career double-figure scoring game, matching her for second all-time in NCAA Division I with LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State (1998-2002) in the category.  Only Sophia Young of Baylor (2003-06), who had 130 double-figure scoring games in 139 career games, has more.

Oklahoma committed a season-high 29 turnovers. The Sooners 14 first-half turnovers were their most in a half this season until committing 15 in the second half.

Texas A&M’s 16 steals were the most this season by a Sooner opponent.

OU’s bench was outscored 19-0 in the game by Texas A&M’s reserves.

Ten of OU’s 33 first-half points, and 16 of 56 total, were from fast-break opportunities.  Stevenson was the only Sooner to make a 3-pointer in game.

Oklahoma’s 14-0 scoring run lasting from 49 second remaining in the first half to 17:42 remaining in the second half was its 33rd of the season. OU opened the second half with a 9-0 run that push the Sooners’ lead from 33-28 to 42-28.

The game was Amanda Thompson’s sixth this season, and third consecutive, with eight or more rebounds.

Danielle Robinson has taken 23 charges in 27 games this season.
